• 저 아이들은 너무 똑같이 생겨서 구분이 잘 안 된다.
  • Those children look so same, so it is hard to distinguish them.
  • → Thos children look so much alike (that) I can't tell them apart.
    • look alike : 같아 보이다. / My suits all look alike.
    • tell : 구별하다, 식별하다 / It’s difficult to tell them apart. : 그들은 서로 구별하기가 힘들어. 
      • I could tell he was angry. 그가 화가 났었는지 구별할 수 있다.
      • tell right from wrong : 시비를 가리다
• 그는 매우 완고해서 우리 쪽으로 의견을 바꾸도록 설득하는 건 아주 어려운 일일 것 같다.
  • He is too stubborn to be persuaded to change his opinion to our side.
  • → He is too stubborn to persuade him to take my side.
  • → He is too stubborn so it would be a real challenge to bring him around to our point of view.
    • bring around to : … 쪽으로 설득하다.
• 이 문제는 당분간 논의에서 제외하도록 합시다.
  • Let’s exclude this problem from discussions for some time.
  • → Put this issue aside for the time being.
    • put something aside : 무시하다 / (나중에 쓸 수 있도록) ~을 따로 떼어 놓다
      • Let's put aside our differences. 
    • for the time being : 당분간
• 내가 기르던 화초들은 다른 사람들에게 다 줘 버렸다.
  • I gave all the plants which I took care of to others.
  • → I gave away my plants.
    • give away : 거저 주다; 나누어 주다;
• 내가 휴가를 가면 내 일을 믿고 부탁할 사람이 없다.
  • I have no one whom I can trust and ask for my job on my day off.
  • → I have no one to fall back on when I go on vacation.
    • fall back on : ~에 기대다, 의지하다
      • I have a little money in the bank to fall back on.
    • go on vacation : 휴가를 가다
• 그와 같은 의사는 요새 찾아보기 어렵다.
  • It is hard to find a doctor like him these days.
  • → Doctors like him are hard to come by.
    • come by something : (힘쓴 끝에) ~을 얻다 [구하다]
      
      • Jobs are hard to come by these days. 
• 감기에 걸리려나 보다.
  • I’m getting a cold.
  • → I'm getting sick with a cold.
  • → I'm coming down with a cold.
    • 여기서의 come은 ~한 상태가 되다.
    • come down with : 병에 걸리다.
• 그녀는 16살인데 조숙해서 성인이라고 해도 믿을 것이다.
  • She is 16 years old, but looks older, so can be believed as an adult. 
  • → She is 16 years old, but she is so mature that she could pass for a grown-up.
    • pass for/as somebody/something ~으로 통하다
    • grown-up : (형) 다 큰, 어른이 된. (명) 어른

  • Do you know how to manage a new bike?
  • → Do you know how to break in a new bike?
    • break something in : ~을 길들이다. 훈련시키다.
      • to break in new recruits : 신병들을 훈련시키다

    • get into : (특정한 전문직종에) 들어가다
